Autoimmune diseases comes from an overactive immune response of the body against its own cells. This often involves a particular tissue or organ. For many, patients develop Dry Eye. This is especially severe for patients with Sjorgren’s Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Other diseases include Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Graves disease and Chrone's disease can also develop Dry Eye
Autoimmune disease is devastation to the patient and their eyes. It often requires a longer period of time to experience relief for dry eyes. Have patience and stay with the recommended regiment of TheraLife Autoimmune Eye Enhanced. Call and talk to one of our doctors to help you go through this difficult process.
- TheraLife® Eye Enhanced – for Autoimmune Dry Eye- Take 8 capsules/day for 1-3 months. (Take with food and water).
The length of time for you to experience relief and the dosage depends on the severity of the disease and other health issues you may be experiencing. Taper dosage off slowly once dry eye symptom improves, e.g. from 8 to 6 capsules/day for 2 weeks, then down to 4 capsules/day.

Dosage Management Recommendations
- Stop using eye drops once your own tears start to secret. Eye drops wash away the mucin, lipids and proteins that protect your eyes.
- Once you experience relief, try to cut back steroids slowly to reduce side effects. Please consult with your physician.
- Reduce stress, exercise, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine, and live a healthy life style.
Other Issues to Consider
Talk to your physician to evaluate your hormone levels and thyroid levels if you are over the age of 40. Hormone fluctuations can contribute to dry eyes. Many times dry eyes are a symptom of other underlying conditions such as digestive imbalances or autoimmune diseases. Additionally, long term contact lens use can contribute to dry eyes.
Practice daily stress reduction such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing. Stress can significantly affect the levels of eye dryness.
Minimize the use of artificial tears without preservatives and take frequent rest breaks when working on a computer.
Get at least eight hours of sleep each night.
Drink plenty of water each day. Reduce your intake of coffee and sodas which can contribute to dehydration.
Eat a balanced diet and include good sources of protein, fruits, and vegetables. Beneficial foods include fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, along with cold water fish like salmon, cod, and sardines.
Avoid refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, fried foods and hydrogenated oils. Also, reduce processed foods in your diet. Some people experience a reduction in eye dryness by reducing their intake of grains such as wheat. Wheat contains a substance called gluten which can cause digestive disturbance and contribute to poor absorption of nutrients.
